It’s been a challenging year, hasn’t it? With the COVID-19 pandemic, a hotly contested election season and ongoing social unrest across the country, it’s easy to think the world is falling apart.
Now that many of us are working from home, there’s also a growing sense of isolation and loneliness. Getting through the day can be quite a struggle.
If you’re feeling anxious, stressed out or overwhelmed, know that you aren’t alone. The American Psychological Association’s “Stress in America 2020” survey found that Americans are significantly more stressed than they were a year ago, and those numbers will probably get worse before they get better.
Though it might be tempting to binge-watch Netflix or eat exorbitant amounts of unhealthy food, these coping mechanisms won’t help you feel better. Sure, you might feel relieved for a short period of time, but your worries and anxiety will only recur. Therefore, it’s important to establish a healthy self-care routine. There are dozens of activities to choose from, but we recommend three, in particular:
1.) Practice yoga. Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that promotes flexibility, circulation and good posture. Practicing yoga three times a week for just 15 or 20 minutes can improve body awareness, relieve chronic stress and sharpen your attention. In addition, yoga provides a safe, all-natural way to manage muscle stiffness, joint pain and other neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.
2.) Eat the rainbow. It’s crucial that you eat a balanced diet, primarily consisting of fruits and vegetables. The colors of fruits and vegetables signify different vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Regularly consuming salads, soups or other dishes that contain two or more fruits and vegetables is a great way to give your body the resources it needs to thrive.
3.) Visit your doctor of chiropractic. Regular chiropractic care appointments can help you feel your best. In fact, many people who invest in chiropractic care experience better sleep, a more positive outlook, reduced stress and improved relationships with others.
There’s no way to know what 2021 will bring, but establishing a self-care routine now can help you weather the storm. If you need help finding a doctor of chiropractic, use our online search tool today.
